Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen Raises Concerns about Issues in Nicosia Industrial Zone
The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen has raised concerns about the deteriorating situation in the Nicosia Industrial Zone, stating that things have “gone out of hand” in the area.
According to the Chamber’s statement, the presence of unauthorized and unregistered workplaces in the Organized Industrial Zone has led to congestion and inflation in the area. Additionally, the problem of parking has made the industrial zone inaccessible and unwalkable.
The Chamber expressed their frustration, stating that the situation in the Nicosia Organized Industrial Zone has spiraled out of control. They highlighted issues such as unauthorized workplaces, pavement occupations, pollution, and infrastructure problems, as well as the occupation of roads and parking lots. The Chamber even mentioned that a parking lot rented by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality was confiscated.
Despite efforts by the municipality and the police to address the problems, the Chamber emphasized that the situation has not improved. They highlighted the growing tension due to the lack of resolution in a lawsuit filed by the municipality, warning that when institutions fail and laws are disregarded, undesirable events may occur.
The Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen issued a strong statement, declaring that they will not accept the current state of weakness and helplessness in the industrial zone. They called for action to address the issues and prevent further deterioration in the area.
