
Champion Melekler and Orhan İtimat Chess Tournament Takes Place

Chess Tournament Held in Northern Cyprus to Benefit Champion Angels Association
A chess tournament, organized by the Shah-Mat Chess and Culture Association, was recently held in Famagusta Suriçi Bandabuliya in Northern Cyprus. Called the Champion Angels and Orhan İtimat Chess Tournament, it saw 135 athletes from all over the island, particularly Nicosia, Girne, and Güzelyurt, compete in nine categories.
The event was held in honor of both the late Orhan İtimat and the Champion Angels, and was staged with the support of the Famagusta Municipality, Northern Cyprus Chess Federation, and the Shah-Mat Chess and Culture Association under the management of Ayşe Toygar. The tournament was sponsored by İtimat and organized for the benefit of the Association for the Survival of Champion Angels.
The competitions followed the 5-round Swiss System in nine categories, which included adults, youth, and those born between 2013 and 2018. Meryem İtimat Tilki, the owner of İtimat İşletmeleri and the daughter of the late Orhan İtimat, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, thanking everyone who contributed and supported the event.
Ruşen Karakaya, the president of the Champion Angels Survival Association, delivered a short speech during the award ceremony, thanking the organizers, the participants, and everyone who had contributed to the success of the event. Athletes who placed in the top five in each category, the best female athletes, and those who contributed received plaques and medals.
The event was a huge success and highlighted the growing popularity of chess in Northern Cyprus. It also provided an opportunity for the community to come together and support a good cause.
