Changes in Admission Procedures for Universities in Uzbekistan

Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, there will be significant changes in the admission process for state higher and vocational educational institutions in Uzbekistan. According to a new presidential decree, applicants will now have to take entrance tests before choosing a university and field of study within a specific timeframe.

Under the new system, applicants will register to take tests and select a block of subjects, language of instruction, and region for taking tests between June 5 and June 25 each year. Entrance examinations will be held in July-August, with the possibility of including a professional (creative) exam for certain programs. After completing the tests, applicants will have 15 days to choose a higher educational institution, the direction of undergraduate education, and the form of education.

In addition, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, admission to programs requiring a foreign language as the first subject in the block of subjects will be based on a national or international certificate determining the level of language proficiency.

Furthermore, the new system will also apply to state colleges and technical schools, where applicants will follow the principle of “test first, then choice”. After the final results of admission to higher educational institutions are announced, applicants will have 10 days to choose a college or technical school, profession, specialty, and form of study.

These changes aim to streamline the admission process and ensure a fair and transparent selection process for all applicants. By aligning entrance tests with the choice of university and field of study, the new system seeks to simplify the application process and help students make informed decisions about their higher education options.
