China Builds Bridge at Irkeshtam Checkpoint on China-Kyrgyzstan Border
On September 16, 2024, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Almaz Turgunbaev, announced at a meeting of the Committee on Budget, Economic, and Fiscal Policy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan that China has built a bridge at the Irkeshtam checkpoint on the state border of China and Kyrgyzstan.
The newly constructed bridge is located in the Alay district of the Osh region on the Osh – Sary-Tash – Irkeshtam highway. It spans a length of 187 meters and has a width of 24 meters. The Chinese side funded the construction of the bridge and it will be transferred to Kyrgyzstan for use.
This infrastructure development is expected to enhance connectivity and trade between China and Kyrgyzstan, benefiting both countries. The completion of the bridge marks a significant milestone in strengthening the ties between the two nations.
Overall, the construction of the bridge at the Irkeshtam checkpoint signifies a positive step towards enhancing bilateral cooperation and economic relations between China and Kyrgyzstan.
