Bishkek – On July 9, 2024, a 53-year-old citizen of China was apprehended at the Dostuk-Avtodorozhny checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the individual was attempting to illegally transport $355,000 out of Kyrgyzstan without declaring it through customs.
The documented materials were seized and appropriate investigative and operational actions are currently being carried out in response to the incident.
It is important to note that a temporary ban on the export of cash foreign currency from Kyrgyzstan was put into effect on January 13, 2023, by the Cabinet of Ministers. Any amount exceeding these limits incurs a penalty fee of 10% of the excess.
The state committee reiterated the importance of complying with these regulations to prevent incidents of illegal money trafficking and maintain the integrity of the country’s financial system. Authorities are continuing to monitor and enforce these measures to safeguard the nation’s economic stability and security.
