Chinese Company Constructs Coal Belt Conveyor on Kyrgyzstan’s Border

Chinese company Xinjiang Dacheng Yuanlong Technology Co., LTD, in collaboration with Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise, has announced the start of construction on a coal logistics center with a belt conveyor on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. The project has been submitted for public discussion and is expected to significantly enhance Kyrgyzstan’s export infrastructure and strengthen logistics connections with China and Uzbekistan.

This initiative comes following the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in August 2023 during Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov’s visit to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. The primary goal of the project is to establish a 7-kilometer conveyor line linking the coal deposits in the Chon-Alai region to the Irkeshtam checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

Additionally, plans include the construction of a 157-kilometer conveyor line to connect the coal deposits with the logistics center. This project is supported by an investment agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Chinese company, which received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers in April 2024.

Furthermore, during President Sadyr Japarov’s state visit to Uzbekistan in July of the same year, an agreement was signed between Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise and Shanxi Coal Investment Group to develop similar infrastructure on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border.

The implementation of these new conveyor systems will streamline and improve the coal transportation process, leading to reduced costs and environmental impact. This initiative aims to make Kyrgyzstan’s coal logistics more sustainable, energy-efficient, and ultimately increase coal exports to neighboring countries.

The introduction of belt conveyors for border crossings is considered innovative for the Kyrgyz Republic, prompting the need for a regulatory framework to govern the operation of these facilities. This development signifies a step towards modernizing and optimizing coal transport in the region.
