CHP and Breaking News Internet Issue Joint Statement

The main opposition party in Turkey, CHP, has released a statement regarding the recent attacks by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) on Turkish soldiers. The statement, signed by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and other prominent members, expressed deep condolences to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives in the attacks and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
The CHP called for immediate action by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, requesting a closed session to discuss the increasing frequency of PKK attacks and the overall national security situation. They emphasized the importance of comprehensive and accurate information being provided to the Parliament by the Minister of National Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The party also highlighted the need for a healthy and effective Parliamentary Investigation to address the rising tension in international relations, as well as the challenges posed by the upcoming local elections. They stressed the importance of removing national security issues from domestic politics and focusing on protecting the country’s unity and integrity.
In addition, CHP criticized the President’s decision to only consult with two political leaders after the recent terrorist attack, stating that such actions are not appropriate in dealing with national security matters.
The statement concluded with a firm commitment from the CHP to fully fulfill all its duties in the fight against terrorism, using its legislative, auditing, and budgeting functions to address the ongoing threats to the country’s independence and integrity.
The CHP’s call for a united and non-partisan approach to national security issues reflects the party’s commitment to safeguarding Turkey’s stability and security in the face of increasing challenges both domestically and internationally.
