Change-Makers and Centrists: CHP Congress Approaches
The race for signatures is heating up as the CHP congress draws near. With just a few days left, both change-makers and centrists are vying for support.
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik has delivered the signatures of 185 out of the 196 elected Istanbul delegates to Özgür Özel, the chairman candidate. In a statement, Çelik expressed his support for Özel, saying, “We are with him.” The overwhelming support from the Istanbul delegates reflects the demand for change in the city, according to Çelik. He emphasized that this will is not limited to the delegates but represents the will of the people of Istanbul.
Meanwhile, Burdur Deputy İzzet Akbulut announced that 95 out of the 130 deputies of the CHP TBMM group have signed in support of Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the 38th Ordinary Congress. Akbulut urged party members to avoid internal conflicts, stating, “We don’t have time to fight with each other.”
MPs who have signed in support of Kılıçdaroğlu’s candidacy gathered in front of the cameras in Parliament. Notably, some centrist deputies, including Engin Altay, Erdoğan Toprak, and Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, were absent from the statement, offering excuses for their absence. The statement highlighted criticisms against the opposition within the party.
The centrists anticipate Kılıçdaroğlu’s re-election as chairman with 800 votes. On the other hand, changeists believe that change is inevitable in the upcoming congress. All eyes are now on the congress scheduled for the coming weekend.
In related news, a photo of the 185 of 196 elected congress delegates in Istanbul signing for Özgür Özel has surfaced. The image captures the unity behind Özel’s candidacy, further showcasing the support for change within the party.
The CHP congress is shaping up to be a significant event in the party’s future. As the tension mounts and rival factions compete for dominance, the outcome of the congress will undoubtedly shape the direction of the party in the coming years.
