Şükrü Ciravoğlu Withdraws from Edirne Mayor Candidacy Due to Health Problems
After winning the primary election in Edirne and being nominated as the mayoral candidate for the CHP, pharmacist Şükrü Ciravoğlu has withdrawn from the race due to health issues.
Following his victory in the primary election, Ciravoğlu was admitted to Edirne Sultan 1st Murat State Hospital after experiencing nausea and low blood pressure. Subsequently, he underwent angiography which revealed a blockage in one of his heart vessels, leading to an immediate operation.
The successful procedure involved the opening of the blocked artery and the placement of a stent. However, just two days after being discharged from the hospital, Ciravoğlu experienced arrhythmia and sought medical attention at Trakya University Medical Faculty Hospital.
As a result of doctors’ recommendations for continued treatment and monitoring, Ciravoğlu has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the mayoral race, citing health reasons.
The official confirmation of his withdrawal was made through a signed document submitted to the district election board, facilitated by the CHP district presidency.
In light of this development, there is anticipation that lawyer Filiz Gencan Akın, who garnered the second most votes in the primary election, may be selected as the new candidate for Edirne Mayor on behalf of the CHP.
Chairman Özgür Özel expressed his well wishes to Ciravoğlu and acknowledged the setback in election preparations due to the candidate’s illness, ultimately leading to the collective decision for withdrawal.
As the CHP adjusts its strategy in Edirne, the party’s leadership will carefully consider the next steps in the selection of an alternative candidate for the upcoming municipal elections.
