CHP’s Kadıköy Assembly Scandal Sparks Anger from President Erdoğan
The Kadıköy Municipal Assembly held its third session of the March meetings under the chairmanship of Ahmet Kurtuluş, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly. During the meeting, AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Elif Lale Bilgili addressed the assembly, raising concerns about corruption allegations against three mayors and highlighting Turkey’s investments in health and women’s rights on International Women’s Day.
However, tension arose when Bilgili’s speaking time was limited to five minutes, leading to a heated exchange with Kurtuluş. The situation escalated further when Kurtuluş threatened to remove Bilgili from the assembly, prompting her to leave the hall in protest.
Following the incident, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Ozgur Celik announced that a disciplinary process had been initiated against Kurtuluş and Bilgili for their behavior during the meeting. He expressed concern over the lack of respect and professionalism displayed by both parties.
The assembly meeting concluded after discussing the agenda items, but the altercation between the members has shed light on the growing tensions within the Kadıköy Municipal Assembly. It remains to be seen how the disciplinary process will unfold and whether it will result in any consequences for the individuals involved.
