CHP’s Response to Allegations of Questionable Behavior: “This Congress Is Just as Clean as Others” – Breaking News from Turkey

CHP Deputy Chairman Refutes Claims of Corruption at Party Congress
In response to allegations of corruption at the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on November 4-5, 2023, Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He stated that the claims of “Congress on the day of money votes for money” do not reflect the truth and accused those making the accusations of trying to tarnish the reputation of the party and democracy as a whole.
Bulut emphasized that the CHP congress was conducted in a clean and honorable manner, just like all previous congresses of the party. He expressed his disappointment at the accusations and stated, “It is a great shame to bring the integrity of our party and democratic processes into question. This is nothing more than an attempt to fabricate a crime out of thin air.”
Regarding the upcoming presidential election, Bulut revealed that the CHP will hold a pre-election to determine the presidential candidate. He emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and transparency in the candidate selection process to avoid any risks or individual biases.
Bulut also emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating, “The common goal in our party is to navigate through this dynamic period together. We must put an end to internal disputes and focus on creating a positive political environment for our upcoming challenges.”
In light of the allegations, an investigation has been launched concerning the CHP congress. Two party members have testified as witnesses, alleging irregularities and bribery during the event. One witness claimed that money was offered in exchange for votes, while another has filed a lawsuit seeking the cancellation of the congress.
It is expected that further statements from the witnesses will be taken in the coming days as the investigation progresses. The CHP leadership has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, vowing to cooperate fully with the authorities to address any concerns raised during the congress.
