CHP’s Second Application by Can Atalay Rejected – Latest News in Turkey

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) has once again called for an extraordinary meeting of the Parliament on Tuesday, September 10, at 14:00. This meeting has been called to address the case of Can Atalay, who was elected as the Hatay MP from the Turkish Workers’ Party but had his parliamentary seat revoked due to a verdict in the Gezi Park case.
Ali Mahir Başarır, the CHP Group Deputy Chairman, announced the rejection of the meeting call by TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. Başarır expressed that despite the Constitutional Court’s decisions, Can Atalay’s parliamentary rights have not been restored, leading to the need for this extraordinary session.
This is not the first time that the Parliament has been called for an extraordinary meeting on this issue. Kurtulmuş cited this as the reason for rejecting the call, stating that the General Assembly had already convened once before on the same matter. The rejection by the President has caused further unrest and controversy within the political sphere.
The fate of Can Atalay and the restoration of his parliamentary rights remain a pressing issue, as the CHP continues to push for his reinstatement. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
