In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, police in Kemin district, Kyrgyzstan, have initiated preventive measures targeting foreign workers from India and Pakistan. The Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Chui region has reported that these efforts aim to prevent interethnic conflicts and ensure community security.
Special attention is being given to dormitories and workplaces where Indian and Pakistani citizens reside and work. Law enforcement is actively engaging with representatives from local diaspora communities and conducting thorough monitoring of social media and online platforms to identify potential incitements to conflict.
Furthermore, security has been heightened at Manas International Airport and the diplomatic missions of both countries as law enforcement agencies operate in an intensified mode to safeguard against potential disturbances.
The backdrop of these preventive measures stems from a military operation launched by India against Pakistan on the evening of May 6. The Indian Ministry of Defense announced that the operation targeted infrastructure allegedly used to orchestrate terrorist attacks against India. In an immediate retaliatory response, Pakistan closed its airspace and initiated missile strikes on Indian territory.
Tensions between the two nations surged after a tragic terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian Kashmir, where militants opened fire on a group of tourists, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals. India has accused the Pakistani authorities of complicity in this attack.
In light of the ongoing conflict, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov expressed grave concern over the situation, urging both nations to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation.
As the geopolitical landscape remains fragile, Kemin district’s proactive measures highlight the importance of maintaining peace and security for all residents amidst rising international tensions.
