Three Ships Collide in Sea of Marmara near Istanbul, Polluting Water
In a maritime incident off the coast of Istanbul, two large tanker ships and a container ship collided in the Sea of Marmara. The collision, which occurred on Saturday, March 8, involved the 130-meter-long container ship Orita crashing into the 270-meter-long tanker Mia, which was anchored in the area.
According to reports from the IHA news agency, the collision resulted in the bursting of the ballast tank of the tanker, leading to the spillage of polluted water into the sea. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported following the accident.
In response to the incident, Türkiye has dispatched tugboats to the scene to assess the situation and potentially assist in the cleanup efforts. The collision serves as a reminder of the importance of maritime safety and the need for proper precautions to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
