Turkey Mourns Late Journalist Omaç Başat on Ninth Anniversary of His Death
On the ninth anniversary of the death of journalist Omaç Başat, mourners gathered at his grave to commemorate his life’s work in Turkish Cypriot sports and sports press. The Cyprus Turkish Sports Writers Association organized the ceremony, which was attended by various sports writers and representatives of sports federations.
During the ceremony held in Nicosia Cemetery, KTSYD President Burhan Gürkan gave a speech and emphasized the importance of preserving Başat’s name and legacy for future generations. He stated that “if we know the past, we can look to the future with more hope. Başat’s contribution to sports should also be known by new generations.”
