
Commissioner Jorgensen Considers Enhancing Energy Cooperation with Azerbaijan in Baku

EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, to Visit Baku for Strategic Energy Talks
Tomorrow, the Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, will be in Baku to reaffirm the strategic energy partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan. This visit comes as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector and promote sustainable practices.
During his time in Baku, Commissioner Jørgensen will participate in the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council. These meetings will focus on discussions related to the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor and efforts to enhance renewable energy development in the region.
One of the key topics on the agenda will be the capacity expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, which plays a critical role in diversifying gas supplies for the EU and neighboring countries. The Commissioner will be joined by representatives from partner governments, institutions, and companies to discuss the importance of this pipeline in reducing dependence on Russian gas supplies.
In addition to discussions on the Southern Gas Corridor, Commissioner Jørgensen will also focus on cooperation in the field of renewable energy and methane emissions abatement. The Green Energy Advisory Council will delve into efforts to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy development across the region.
Furthermore, the Commissioner will co-chair an EU-Azerbaijan business roundtable on offshore wind energy development in the Caspian Sea alongside the Azerbaijani Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov. This meeting aims to explore opportunities for collaboration in the field of renewable energy.
Before reaching Baku, Commissioner Jørgensen will stop in Ankara, Turkey, today to meet with the Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar. This visit highlights the importance of regional cooperation in the energy sector and the commitment to achieving sustainable energy goals.
