Committee Discusses Budget for Ministry of Labor and Social Security

CTP Deputy Fazilet Özdenefe stated that pharmacies and pharmaceutical warehouses have come to the point of closure and said, “There are urgent measures that the Ministry must take regarding the prescription issue.” Stating that gender-based inequality in the labor market is very serious, Özdenefe also criticized UBP for not having the will to govern the country. Özdenefe pointed out that there is discrimination against women in the laws and shared her suggestions. Deputy Derya emphasized the importance of increasing social assistance and argued that 601 women in the country received “maternity assistance”, and that people who had no one to support them were unable to work and were left in need of help because there was no place to leave their children; He expressed the importance of opening care services institutions. Derya also shared her observations at the Nursery and expressed her opinion that the adoption procedure should be facilitated.
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Deputy Sıla Usar İncirli, who spoke first on the budget, touched upon the so-called “fake prescription investigation”. Incirli said that there are “unnatural disasters” as well as natural disasters in the world, and described the developments of the last 2 and a half months as an “unnatural disaster” created by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
These statements came during the ongoing discussions on the 2024 Fiscal Year Central State Administration Budget Bill in the Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning Committee with the budget of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The committee discussed the Ministry’s budget of 3 Billion 189 Million 859 thousand 600 TL with the participation of deputies, Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu and bureaucrats, observed by some members in different political positions.
It is clear the focus on the management of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is one of the main points of contention in these discussions. We can expect the committee to continue to investigate the issues brought up by the deputies and the government’s responses to address these concerns.
