Bishkek – 15:29, 11 April 2025 – The reclamation of the uranium site in Min-Kush, located in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan, is set to be completed in the fall of this year. This announcement was made during a meeting between the Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, Boobek Azhikeev, and the Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, Nikolai Spassky.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the main focus of the meeting was on the finalization of the project to reclaim the uranium site in Min-Kush village. Representatives from Rosatom informed that all work at the site is scheduled to be finished by August 2025. Additionally, a memorial stele commemorating the history of the mining industry and the strong partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Russia will be erected in Min-Kush.

This project is part of the interstate program aimed at reclaiming territories affected by uranium mining, as outlined in the agreement signed between the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of Russia in March 2024.

During the meeting, discussions also took place regarding future steps to restore facilities in other settlements such as Kadzhi-sai, Kyzyl-zhar No. 12, Kara-Tash (To-Moyun), Sumsar, and Kan.

The completion of the reclamation project in Min-Kush signifies an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to address the environmental and safety concerns related to uranium mining in the region.
