Conclusion of Today’s Republican Assembly Session – BRTK
The General Assembly of the Republic of the Northern Cyprus concluded its meeting today after the completion of current speeches.
The next session of the General Assembly is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 21 at 10:00.
During today’s meeting, Interior Minister Dursun Oguz addressed the issue of the Cyprus problem, emphasizing the importance of equality and the challenges faced by the TRNC due to embargoes and isolation. He highlighted the significance of relations with the Turkish States Community and underlined the need for official contacts and visits between countries.
Oguz criticized the United Nations for its passive role in the Gaza conflict and asserted that the future of the Turkish Cypriot people cannot rely solely on UN intervention. He emphasized the struggle for freedom and sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people, stating that they should not be left at the mercy of international organizations.
In response, CTP deputy Sami Özuslu discussed the prolonged discussions on the federation and the lack of progress in resolving the Cyprus issue. He pointed out the reluctance of the Cyprus Greek leader to engage in meaningful dialogue and suggested that the UN could play a more constructive role in achieving a resolution.
CTP Deputy Teberrüken Uluçay focused on the impact of global trade wars on underdeveloped countries and economies, highlighting the challenges faced by the TRNC due to economic uncertainties. He noted a decline in purchasing power and emphasized the need to strengthen economic relations with Southern Cyprus while reducing costs and enhancing cooperation.
Uluçay also addressed the issue of headscarf controversies, urging careful consideration of the sensitivities of the Turkish Cypriot people. He called for adherence to laws and regulations, emphasizing the importance of compliance and the need for a compromise.
Following the conclusion of the speeches, today’s session ended, setting the stage for further discussions and debates in the upcoming sessions of the General Assembly.
