Construction of New Motorway Planned in Southern Hungary

Plans for the construction of a 37-kilometre expressway between Pécs and Szigetvár, which were put on hold two years ago, may now be back on track. The Ministry of Construction and Transport has announced that a public tender will soon be launched for the design of the M60 section of the road.

The decision to suspend the construction of the expressway in 2023 was made in order to allocate funds for other government priorities during that time. However, with the construction permit already in place for the project, the next step of preparing the design was never completed.

Now, with a recent announcement in the Official Journal, it has been revealed that a conditional procedure for preparing the design will be launched by 31 March. This means that the long-awaited construction of the expressway between Pécs and Szigetvár could finally become a reality.

The planned road will have two lanes with paved embankments on both sides, as well as a central dividing lane with a speed limit of 110 kilometres per hour. Once completed, the new expressway is expected to improve connectivity and transportation efficiency in the region.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the infrastructure of Baranya county.
