Construction Sector Achieves All-Time High in Exports in 2022
The 7th Samsun Construction Fair opened with a speech by Minister of Trade Mehmet Muş, who stressed the importance of the construction industry for the economy and said that the sector can contribute to industry, production, and tourism. Muş also announced that Turkey’s construction materials sector recorded the highest export figures of all time in 2022, amounting to $33.7 billion. Furthermore, the earthquake that currently affects 11 provinces has created the need for approximately 800 thousand independent sections to be built, with Turkish construction manufacturers capable of handling the production in the earthquake zone.
Muş also highlighted that Samsun, the largest city in the Black Sea, had an export value of $1.3 billion in 2022. The Minister aims to increase the city’s share in Turkey’s exports to 1 percent, and then further to 2 percent by developing infrastructure and facilities for investors to invest in, bring their raw materials, and sell the goods they produce. The new OIZ’s space allocation issue has now been resolved, and the enterprising committee will handle it. The Minister insisted that non-agricultural land should be used for industry purposes and encourage connections to the Kayseri-Karaman Line to increase Samsun’s industrial parcels’ allocation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman of the Board Salih Zeki Murzioğlu said that the construction industry is a versatile field that is environmentally friendly, has social responsibility, has a direct impact on social life and social structure. Murzioğlu also noted that the construction industry plays a critical role in rebuilding the region affected by the recent earthquake.
The fair was organized with the support and cooperation of Samsun Governorship, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, Samsun Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Samsun Union of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, and many institutions. It will be open to the visitors between 4-7 May 2023.
