Hungary Helps Program Extends International Partnership with Turkey
Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, recently visited Türkiye to announce a new milestone in the international partnership of the Hungary Helps Program. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Hungary Helps Agency, signaling a significant diplomatic success in expanding Hungarian-Turkish relations.
In a Facebook post, Azbej highlighted the shared principles that will guide this partnership, emphasizing the goal of helping people in crisis zones build their futures and prevent migration through local assistance, particularly in the Sahel region. The agreement opens up opportunities for collaboration in various crucial areas such as food security, education development, women’s empowerment, and the preservation of cultural heritage across different religions.
Azbej expressed gratitude for Hungary’s assistance following the earthquake in Turkey, noting that the partnership between TIKA and the Hungary Helps Program represents a continuation of the solidarity shown between the two countries in supporting communities in need worldwide.
During his visit, Azbej shared uplifting news about the results of Hungarian support under the Hungary Helps Program, which contributed to the revival of the cultural heart of the earthquake-stricken Osmaniye province. He handed over a cultural center and a restored Béla Bartók memorial exhibition, underscoring the historical ties between Hungary and Turkey.
The State Secretary’s discussions with Turkish leaders highlighted the deep gratitude felt by the Turkish people towards Hungary for its timely aid in times of crisis.
