Corruption Scandal: Culture Ministry Officials Pocket Funds Meant for World Nomad Games Participants
Bishkek – The Department of Physical Culture and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan is currently under investigation for suspected misappropriation of funds. According to the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), the head of the Directorate for National Sports, the chief accountant of the directorate, and the head of the financial department have been detained.
It has been revealed that these officials, in collaboration with individuals from supervised federations, deliberately falsified information in reporting documents related to educational training camps, daily meals, one-time payments, and a prize fund meant for participants of the 4th World Nomad Games in Turkey in 2022. The federations involved include coaches and methodologists of Kok-Boru, Kyrgyz Uluttuk Klassikalyk Kurosh, Alysh Bel Boo Kurosh, Salbuurun, Kulatuu, At Oyundary Federations, among others.
Investigative actions are currently underway with the cooperation of the detainees, as authorities work to determine if other officials were also involved in the corruption scheme. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
