A former investigator in Tashkent sentenced to prison for accepting a bribe
An investigator in Tashkent found himself on the wrong side of the law when he was caught accepting a $500 bribe from a suspect in a case he was handling. The suspect had allegedly offered the money in exchange for not imposing pre-trial detention. The investigator, identified as N.Kh., was apprehended in a sting operation by law enforcement officers and later sentenced to prison.
According to court documents reviewed by Kun.uz, N.Kh. was working as an investigator at the Bektemir district Department for the Coordination of Internal Affairs. On September 17, 2024, he was caught red-handed while receiving the $500 bribe from a suspect in a criminal case.
During his court appearance, N.Kh. denied all charges and claimed that the money was not a bribe but a token of appreciation for expediting the case. He stated that he had informed the suspect that he did not need any money and advised him to pay the bail and express his gratitude after the court’s verdict.
However, the court found N.Kh. guilty based on witness testimonies, forensic analysis, and other evidence. He was convicted of committing a crime under Article 210, Part 1 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to two years in prison. Additionally, he was banned from working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for three years.
