
Countries in Central Asia Collaborate on Combating Terrorism and Drug Trafficking

A meeting was recently held in Fergana on May 6th, bringing together key officials from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan to discuss regional security issues. The Chairman of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, Abdusalom Azizov, met with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, as well as the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, Saymumin Yatimov.
During the meeting, the officials engaged in detailed discussions on a variety of security challenges, including terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, smuggling, and other trans-border threats. The parties also explored opportunities for cooperation to enhance regional security and promote good neighborly relations.
In particular, the participants addressed the delimitation of state borders between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, as well as the demarcation of borders between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Agreements were reached to expedite the processes of border delimitation and demarcation, with a focus on mutual interests and cooperation between the countries.
Following the negotiations, instructions were given to the members of the Kyrgyz-Tajik intergovernmental commission to finalize the remaining sections of the border and prepare for the signing of a bilateral agreement. The outcome of the meeting reflects a commitment to strengthening security cooperation and enhancing stability in the region.
