‘Cage’ operation in Istanbul and Sinop: 2 criminal organizations were destroyed
On October 16, 2023, Minister Yerlikaya took to social media to announce the successful dismantling of two criminal organizations in Istanbul and Sinop. The Minister stated that no matter the size, these organized crime groups and gangs that disrupt the peace of families will not be given respite.
The first organization targeted was the Uzuner Crime Organization. In simultaneous operations conducted in Sinop, Trabzon, and Istanbul, 14 suspicious individuals were apprehended. Out of these, 13 gang members were arrested, while one member was placed under judicial control. The operation, led by the Sinop Provincial General Command, was carried out under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department. The Uzuner Crime Organization, led by Necati Kerim Uzuner and including eight criminal organization managers, was the primary target. The suspects were engaged in fraudulent activities, impersonating bank representatives and converting the money they received into cryptocurrency. During the operation, the court seized a total of 153 bank accounts belonging to eight suspects, with a transaction volume of 40 Million Turkish Liras.
The second organization taken down was the Pelit Crime Organization. The Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command conducted the operation against this organized crime group, headed by Rıfat Albayrak. In Istanbul, 25 suspicious individuals were apprehended. These individuals were involved in various crimes, including bribery, qualified fraud, and opposition to the Forest Law. They were illegally selling lands in forest areas to citizens using forged documents. The judicial proceedings are ongoing, and the authorities are investigating the matter further. During the operation, the authorities seized 15 unlicensed guns, a significant amount of gold believed to be obtained from criminal activities, as well as a large sum of foreign currency and money.
Minister Yerlikaya expressed his admiration and gratitude to the law enforcement officials and personnel who organized and executed these successful operations. He commended their bravery and stated that the prayers of the nation are with them. The Minister also emphasized that the Turkish justice system is relentless, and none of these criminal organizations will escape its reach.
