Crackdown on Smuggling: Electronic Cigarettes and Car Parts Seized

The Ministry of Interior in Turkey has disclosed that their teams are actively working to combat smuggling activities across the country. Recently, a suspicious container at Ambarlı Port in Istanbul was closely examined, leading to a significant discovery.

Upon further investigation, authorities found 11 pallets of items wrapped in black stretch film within the container. Upon opening the stretch films, it was revealed that there were 118 boxes containing a total of 23,575 electronic cigarettes stacked on 1000 unmarked plastic water bottles. The total market value of the smuggled goods was estimated to be around 30 million lira.

The investigation into this incident is currently ongoing at the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Similarly, another significant seizure occurred at the Kapıkule Customs Gate where a luxury car entered Turkey under false pretenses with a fake retirement certificate. The vehicle, valued at 51 million 146 thousand lira, was confiscated, and investigations are being carried out by the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In addition to these operations, authorities have also been targeting auto spare parts smuggling activities. Various spare parts such as taillights, fog lights, bodywork materials, air conditioning components, and tires have been seized in the first half of the year. These interventions have prevented smuggling worth 135 million lira.

These recent crackdowns on smuggling activities indicate the Turkish government’s firm stance against illegal trade practices. Authorities are working diligently to prevent such activities and uphold the rule of law in the country.
