Creation of Unified Air Defense System Agreed Upon by CIS Countries
Countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have come together to strengthen their security and cooperation by agreeing to create a unified air defense system. The decision was made during a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Moscow, where representatives from member states, including Uzbekistan, signed the agreement.
The focus of the agreement will be on the development and funding of the air defense system, which will be implemented in stages with the goal of enhancing the collective defense capabilities of CIS countries. The meeting was chaired by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The establishment of this unified air defense system is aimed at safeguarding the region against external air threats and increasing cooperation in military defense matters. This decision marks a significant milestone in the advancement of joint defense initiatives within the CIS framework.
Reports from the meeting indicate that the initiative is scheduled to begin in 2025, with a focus on financing the system’s creation and ongoing development to strengthen air defense capacities for all participating states. This collaborative effort highlights the commitment of CIS countries to enhancing their security and coordination in the face of emerging threats.
