The analysis of crime statistics over the past five years shows a steady increase in the number of criminal cases and individuals involved. In 2020, there were 30,282 cases reviewed, while in 2024, this number had more than doubled to 61,000 cases. The number of individuals involved also rose from over 38,000 in 2020 to nearly 78,000 in 2024.
Regionally, Tashkent city, Fergana, and Tashkent regions had the highest number of cases reviewed, consistently ranking as the areas with the highest crime rates. On the other hand, Khorezm, Syrdarya, and Navoi regions recorded the lowest number of cases, as they have smaller populations.
The data also showed an increase in the number of convicted individuals, with 61,000 individuals receiving various types of sentences, including conditional sentences. However, the number of acquittals decreased in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Serious and extremely serious crimes have been on the rise over the past five years, with murder and sexual assault cases increasing annually. In 2024, there were 402 murder cases and 272 sexual assault cases recorded, indicating that at least one murder occurs daily and a sexual assault case is reported every two days in Uzbekistan.
The key crime trends from 2020 to 2024 indicated significant increases in drug-related offenses, theft, and embezzlement cases. The data also highlighted the gender and age distribution of the convicted individuals, with the majority being men, followed by women and minors.
Various types of punishments were imposed by first-instance courts, with imprisonment being the most frequently applied penalty. The number of prison sentences has been increasing in line with the rise in crime, with over 20,000 individuals being imprisoned in 2024, including 1,500 women. Life imprisonment sentences were also given to 17 individuals over the past five years, with 2023 recording the highest number of such sentences.
