Danny DeVito reprises iconic Penguin role

Danny DeVito Expresses Desire to Return as the Penguin After Michael Keaton’s Batman Comeback
Superhero movies have been embracing the concept of the multiverse, allowing past actors to reprise their iconic roles. Following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s return in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Michael Keaton is set to don the cape and cowl once again in “The Flash.” Not wanting to miss out on such a privilege, Danny DeVito is now expressing his eagerness to reprise his role as the Penguin.
DeVito famously portrayed the twisted Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin, in Tim Burton’s 1992 sequel, “Batman Returns.” When asked about the possibility of returning to the role in a recent interview with SFX Magazine, DeVito wholeheartedly expressed his interest. He stated, “I would definitely consider doing that, yes. Batman Returns was a great movie, splendid like an opera. You can do everything you can. There was so much motivating that so much was churning inside Penguin. It was an emotional experience for me because Tim’s [Burton] I felt it was the opportunity of my life to play Oswald Cobblepot with his vision and design. Tim is a genius for me.”
“Batman Returns” garnered critical acclaim despite its darker and more adult-oriented approach, which was ahead of its time. Over the years, the film has gained a reputation as a bleak, psychosexual fairy tale exploring the lives of broken individuals. It is frequently cited as one of the best comic book movies ever made.
The penguin character recently returned to the big screen in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” portrayed by Colin Farrell. However, DeVito’s portrayal is fondly remembered by fans, and his potential return would undoubtedly generate excitement.
In the meantime, DeVito has other projects lined up. He is currently preparing to dazzle audiences in “Haunted Mansion,” slated for release on August 11. While waiting for a possible return as the Penguin, fans can look forward to seeing DeVito in this upcoming film.
As superhero movies continue to embrace the multiverse, it seems that no character is off-limits when it comes to potential returns. With Michael Keaton back as Batman and DeVito expressing his desire to reprise the role of the Penguin, fans can only hope that their wishes come true. The world of superhero cinema is becoming more interconnected and nostalgic, creating endless possibilities for beloved characters from the past to make their triumphant comebacks.
