The Poisonous Impact: Massive Drug Seizures in Turkey
In a recent operation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the General Directorate of Security Narcotics Crime Coordination in 76 provinces, a shocking discovery was made. It was revealed that a large quantity of drugs had been smuggled into the country with the intent to poison young people.
A total of 1 ton 444 kilograms of drugs and 2 million 376 thousand drug pills were seized during the raids. Additionally, 2 thousand 365 suspects were detained in connection to the drug trafficking operations.
One of the key findings of the operation was a workplace located in Güngören on the Istanbul leg, where 365 kilograms of drugs were confiscated. Further investigations revealed that the drug had been smuggled into Turkey by ship through Yalova. The drug substance was cleverly concealed in sacks of flour from South American countries.
Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Yildiz emphasized the seriousness of the situation by stating, “We are determined to dry the drug swamp that is poisoning our young people and destroying families.”
As a result of the coordinated efforts, 17 suspects have been detained in connection to the drug trafficking operations. The legal proceedings for the detained suspects are currently ongoing in 76 provinces.
