Decline in Measles Cases in Kyrgyzstan

Measles Cases Declining in Kyrgyzstan

As of September 20, 2024, a total of 13,320 cases of measles have been reported in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year, according to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis. The incidence of measles in the country is showing a downward trend, with only 49 cases registered from September 1 to September 17. This is a significant decrease compared to 828 cases in July and 260 cases in August.

Although the number of measles cases is decreasing, the virus is still circulating in Bishkek and two districts of the Chui region near the capital. The spread of the virus in these areas is being maintained by stationary infection sources.

In response to the measles outbreak, a campaign for additional and catch-up immunization has been initiated. All children between nine months and seven years old are required to receive the measles vaccine, except for those who have already received two doses during routine and catch-up vaccinations.

The efforts to control the spread of measles in Kyrgyzstan are ongoing, with a focus on vaccination and monitoring of infection sources. Health authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of the public in the face of this infectious disease.
