Hungary Receives Two New H225M Transport Helicopters from Airbus
Two new H225M transport helicopters have arrived at the Kiss József 86th Helicopter Brigade in Szolnok, central Hungary. The helicopters were transported from the Airbus Helicopters production center in Marignane, southern France, and were delivered to Hungary with the assistance of the squadron’s fleet.
These helicopters will receive the Hungarian roundels this week and will be welcomed by Colonel Dr. Tamás Baliás, commander of the unit. Four of sixteen helicopters of this type have already arrived in Hungary, and the next two are expected to arrive in December.
The procurement of these helicopters is part of the Defense and Military Development Program, for which the Ministry of Defense signed a contract in December 2018. The program aims to enhance the combat capability of the Hungarian armed forces and strengthen the defense industry in order to ensure the country’s security and contribute to the growth of the economy.
Speaking at the Defense Supplier Development Program conference, Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized the need to make the Hungarian armed forces combat capable and the defense industry competitive. He also stressed the importance of strategic agreements and joint ventures with large companies such as Rheinmetall, Dynamit Nobel Defence, Airbus Helicopters, and Nurol Makina for the development of the defense industry.
The Defense Ministry’s supplier development program and support institution have been set up to increase the involvement of Hungarian-owned companies in defense industrial development and production. The program aims to double the current share of Hungarian suppliers in the defense industry, with the establishment of a defense industrial capital fund and non-reimbursable grants managed within N7 Zrt.
The arrival of these new transport helicopters marks a significant step in Hungary’s efforts to strengthen its national security and defense capabilities.
