
President Tatar awarded “Turkic World Distinguished Service Medal” – BRTK

“Global Climate Change” and “Investments and Cooperation Summit” are being held at the Elexus Hotel in Girne.
During the summit, President Ersin Tatar was awarded the “Turkish World Distinguished Service Medal.”
Tatar emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and nature of the TRNC as an independent Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean, leaving a livable future for future generations.
He stated that every drop of water is valuable and expressed his greatest wish for the necessary measures to be taken and implemented with unity and solidarity to overcome global warming and other dangers.
The joint opening ceremonies of the 4th International Water Conference in Mediterranean Countries (WPMC-2024) and the 7th International Natural Environment Conference on Resources and Sustainable Environmental Management (NRSEM-2024) were held in cooperation with the Turkish World Engineers and Architects Union (TDMMB) and Near East University (NEU).
The three-day “Global Climate Change International Conference” and “Investments and Cooperation Development Program Summit” bring together scientists, business representatives, and experts in engineering and architecture.
President Ersin Tatar, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, President of the Turkish World Engineers and Architects Union Dr. İlyas Demirci, NEU Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, and many guests attended the event.
The event began with a tribute and the national anthem followed by opening speeches.
The opening speeches were given by the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environment Engineering at Near East University (NEU), President of ENÇESU Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, and the President of the Turkish World Engineers and Architects Union Dr. İlyas Demirci.
A presentation on the TRNC Water Supply Project and a visual presentation highlighting the representation of the TRNC in the Turkish world were shown, followed by protocol speeches.
Arıklı stated, “The next century will witness water wars” and emphasized the importance of dealing with the ecological disaster caused by water crises, drought, and threats to the future of humanity.
Ataoğlu highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity in discussing important topics related to global warming, climate change, and water scarcity and stressed the need for proactive measures to address environmental challenges.
Serim emphasized the global warming, climate change, water scarcity, desertification, and unplanned industrialization as the factors affecting water resources negatively.
He stated that climate change affects water resources in terms of quantity and quality and added that combating climate change and transitioning to a low-carbon economy are essential for a sustainable future.
Tatar mentioned the significance of the TRNC Water Supply Project in providing clean drinking water to the people of the TRNC and highlighted the importance of protecting the island’s natural resources.
He urged for unity and cooperation in facing global warming and environmental challenges and emphasized the responsibility of everyone to preserve the environment for future generations.
Overall, the summit aims to foster collaborations, develop solutions for climate change, and explore investment opportunities for a sustainable future.
