Defense Vehicle’s Last-Minute Engine Upgrade: Domestic Innovation

The Turkish Defense Industry has made significant strides in the development of domestic and national engines for land vehicles. Recently, the Hedgehog and Başak vehicles were delivered to the land forces and the Gendarmerie General Command, equipped with tuna engines in the 400 horsepower class. These vehicles are 100 percent domestically produced, featuring the Danube engine which is known for its powerful performance.

In a statement made by Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün, it was revealed that the engines used in these vehicles have passed NATO endurance tests and are designed to adapt to various terrain and weather conditions. The Tuna engine, integrated into the Kirpi and Shooter vehicles, plays a crucial role in ensuring superior mobility for the Batman and Hedgehog vehicles.

Additionally, other engines such as the Azra, Utku, and Batu have also been developed for different types of land vehicles. The Azra engine, produced by BMC Power, boasts 600 horsepower and is aimed at powering 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles and tank carriers. The Utku engine, also produced by BMC Power, has a thousand horsepower capacity and is designed for new generation light armored vehicles and tracked howitzers.

Furthermore, the Batu engine, which consists of 12 cylinders and produces 1,500 horsepower, will serve as the heart of the Altay tank. This engine marks another significant achievement in the local and national production of engines for land vehicles.

In conclusion, the Turkish defense industry is making great strides in the development and production of powerful engines for land vehicles, with a focus on domestic and national capabilities. These advancements are crucial in enhancing the mobility and performance of Turkey’s military vehicles in various operational environments.
