Uzbek Tennis Star Denis Istomin Announces Retirement
After a distinguished career in professional tennis, Uzbekistan’s very own Denis Istomin has announced his retirement from the sport. The heartfelt farewell took place following a match between Uzbekistan and Poland at the Davis Cup, where Istomin made the official announcement.
Istomin has been a prominent figure in Uzbekistan’s tennis scene and leaves behind a lasting legacy. With his participation in three Olympic Games and a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games, Istomin has made significant contributions to the sport. His achievements also include clinching two silver medals at the Guangzhou 2010 Games and a bronze medal at the Incheon 2014 Games.
The ceremonial farewell match took place at the Humo Arena, where Istomin went up against young talent Amir Milushev. Following the match, various dignitaries from Uzbekistan’s sports sector, including Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov and President of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation Alisher Mirsoatov, paid tribute to Istomin for his invaluable contributions.
Throughout his illustrious career, Istomin achieved a career-high ATP ranking of 33rd and secured main tournament victories in 2015 and 2017. These accomplishments earned him the honorary title of “Distinguished Athlete of Uzbekistan.”
Istomin graciously expressed his gratitude for the recognition of his career achievements and looks forward to the next chapter in his life after retiring from professional tennis.
