Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Visits the Republic of the Philippines
On August 2, 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Akhmet Gurbanov, led a delegation to the Republic of the Philippines for political consultations in Manila. The Philippine side was represented by Deputy Secretary for Bilateral and ASEAN Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Maria Teresa Lazaro.
The discussions during the consultations covered various aspects of the bilateral agenda, including political and diplomatic cooperation, trade and economic relations, as well as cultural and humanitarian partnerships. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Emphasis was placed on the significance of maintaining regular high-level contacts to drive bilateral cooperation forward. The role of parliamentary diplomacy in enhancing Turkmen-Philippine relations was highlighted, with a commitment to further intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue.
In terms of trade and economic relations, the diplomats expressed readiness to collaborate in areas such as energy, transport, agriculture, and more. They delved into the import-export potential of both nations and discussed ways to enhance the current contractual and legal framework for cooperation.
The importance of cultural and humanitarian ties in bringing people closer together was also underscored during the discussions.
A meeting was also held between Deputy Minister A. Gurbanov and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo, where they reiterated their commitment to enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors and improving the legal framework.
Following the talks, a “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines on political consultations” was signed.
The delegation of Turkmenistan also met with the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of the Philippines, Jude Aguliar, highlighting the friendly and partnership relations based on mutual respect, trust, and equality.
The visit of the Turkmenistan delegation to the Philippines is ongoing, with both sides looking forward to further strengthening the interstate relations in the future.
