Deputy Reveals: Majority of Video Cameras in Safe City Are Not Functional

On May 27, 2024, during a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Parliament, MP Kubanychbek Samakov raised concerns about the malfunctioning of 90 percent of the video cameras installed on the streets as part of the Safe City project.

Samakov questioned why the cameras were not operational despite previous explanations citing judicial issues. He emphasized the importance of addressing this issue promptly, stating that there were other pressing matters to be resolved.

In response, Deputy Minister of Digital Development Zamirbek Kozhomuratov explained that there were ongoing legal disputes and lawsuits related to the project. He mentioned that there were issues with payment owed by the Chinese side for downtime and various legal points that needed to be clarified.

Kozhomuratov assured that efforts were being made to resolve the situation by the end of the fall. The Deputy Minister acknowledged the significance of the matter and expressed commitment to overcoming the challenges faced by the Safe City project in Kyrgyzstan.
