Despite Sanctions, Economy Thrives: Akylbek Japarov discusses steady growth in Russia
Kyrgyzstan’s Economy Thrives Within the EAEU
In a recent interview with Russia 24 TV channel, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, highlighted the positive economic growth Kyrgyzstan has experienced within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Despite Russia, their main trade partner, being under sanctions pressure, Kyrgyzstan’s economy has shown steady growth.
Japarov mentioned that Kyrgyzstan’s GDP growth has averaged about 7 percent over the past three years, and in 2022, it exceeded 9 percent. This growth can be attributed to the right macroeconomic policy, a professional team, and the creation of favorable conditions for businesses and citizens, including within the EAEU.
The Chairman of the Cabinet set ambitious goals for the country, aiming for the GDP to reach at least $30 billion by 2030. He emphasized the importance of the EAEU in stabilizing the economy after the pandemic and leveraging the union to propel economic growth.
Japarov also acknowledged that the EAEU has met the aspirations of the citizens of Kyrgyzstan, allowing for freedom of movement, communication, and employment. He believes that the union was created with the interests of ordinary citizens in mind, in addition to economic and political considerations.
Overall, Kyrgyzstan’s success within the EAEU demonstrates the benefits of regional economic cooperation and integration for the country’s development and prosperity.
