Bishkek Senior Investigator Detained for Taking Bribe

A senior investigator from the Department of Internal Affairs of Pervomaisky district in Bishkek has been detained for accepting a bribe, according to a report from the press center of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS).

The investigation revealed that the senior investigator, identified as A.K.M., was extorting money in exchange for closing a criminal case against a current employee of the Department for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Main Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek. The SCNS clarified that there was no actual evidence of a crime or legitimate reason to hold the drug control officer accountable.

On March 5, a joint operation involving the SCNS and the Internal Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs led to the arrest of the senior investigator in his office while he was accepting a $5,000 bribe.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of corruption within law enforcement agencies and the importance of rooting out such illicit behavior to maintain accountability and trust within the justice system. Authorities continue to investigate the case and will take appropriate legal action against those involved in the bribery scheme.
