
Developing Winter Sports: Kyrgyzstan Introduces Skiing in Schools Program

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Edil Baisalov, Leads Meeting on Winter Sports Development
Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Edil Baisalov, recently gathered representatives from relevant departments and sports organizations for a meeting focused on the development of winter sports in the country. Discussions covered a range of topics, including plans for winter sports development, preparation of the national team for the IX Asian Winter Games in Harbin, and initiatives to enhance infrastructure and train personnel in this field.
During the meeting, special attention was given to the integration of winter sports, such as alpine skiing, into school physical education programs, particularly in areas near ski resorts. To support this initiative, participants agreed to establish specialized sections within children’s and youth sports schools.
Baisalov highlighted Kyrgyzstan’s unique natural conditions that make it an ideal location for the growth of winter sports. He also commended President Sadyr Japarov’s proposal to construct new ski resorts like Three Peaks, which are expected to attract athletes, tourists, and young people.
The Deputy Chairman stressed that creating modern facilities for winter sports will not only enhance the country’s sports potential but also promote active recreation and bolster Kyrgyzstan’s international reputation.
Following the meeting, relevant departments were tasked with developing a comprehensive program for the advancement of winter sports. This program will include strategies to support both professional and amateur sports, build necessary infrastructure, train coaches, and attract investments in the winter tourism sector.
The outcomes of this meeting are anticipated to contribute significantly to the development of winter sports in Kyrgyzstan and promote a thriving sports culture in the country.
