Dina’s Family Attends Gabonese Hearing

The Tragic Case of Dina Ibuanga: Sexual Assault, Persistent Stalking, and a Suspicious Death

A heartbreaking case of sexual assault, persistent stalking, and a suspicious death has shocked the community in Karabük. The victim, a young African girl named Dina Ibuanga from Gabon, was found lifeless in Filyos Stream on March 26, 2023.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Dina had run away from Dursun Acar’s car. The indictment prepared by the Karabük Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Dina escaped from Acar’s car following a sexual assault, and fell into the stream as a result of his persistent pursuit.

In the indictment, Acar was charged with aggravated life imprisonment for “intentionally killing a person who was unable to defend himself” and up to 15 years in prison for “attempted sexual abuse”.

The third hearing of the case took place at Karabük High Criminal Court, where Dina’s parents and Gabon Ambassador Bernard Avuma were in attendance. Dina’s mother expressed the family’s desire for justice, stating, “We want justice to be served.”

The family’s lawyer requested an exploration of the apartment where Dina was last seen, but the court rejected the request. Acar denied the accusations, claiming he did not know Dina and had only offered her a ride to the hospital.

Despite the defendant’s denial, the court decided to detain Acar by majority vote and postponed the hearing to address any missing issues.

This tragic case has left Dina’s family devastated, with her mother expressing heart-wrenching words, “I sent her to study and took her back in a coffin.” The community awaits the outcome of the trial as they seek justice for Dina’s untimely death.
