Josée Gagnon, the founder of Canadian charity L’Avant, recently shared a touching story about a dying man’s final wish – to see “Dune: Part Two” before he passed away. In an interview with The Washington Post, Gagnon revealed that the Frenchman was given a grim diagnosis in January with only a few weeks left to live. With the release date of the film scheduled for March, it seemed impossible for the fan to make it to the theaters.
In a race against time, L’Avant posted a heartfelt plea on their Facebook page, aiming to reach out to director Denis Villeneuve. Gagnon admitted to initially harboring doubts about the feasibility of the request, but with the encouragement of a friend, she decided to take a chance.
To everyone’s surprise, Villeneuve and his wife, Tanya Lapointe, who is a producer of “Dune: Part Two,” were deeply moved by the dying man’s wish. Villeneuve’s team swiftly arranged for the film to be shown to the fan on January 16, flying out the director’s laptop for a private screening. Despite the fan’s weakening condition, he was able to watch part of the movie before passing away a few days later.
The emotional impact of this experience resonated with everyone involved, with Gagnon revealing that even Villeneuve’s assistant was brought to tears by the moment. While Gagnon did not watch the film herself, she finds solace in knowing that the dying man’s last wish was fulfilled.
