Discovery of Additional Secret Tunnel on Kyrgyz-Uzbek Border
New Illegal Underground Route Discovered between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan
Reports have emerged of a new underground route being used to illegally transport people and contraband goods from Kyrgyzstan to neighboring Uzbekistan. The route was found in the Jalalabad region of Kyrgyzstan, and a suspect has been apprehended in connection to the illegal activities.
The suspect, a citizen of Uzbekistan, was apprehended by officers of the Department of Internal Affairs in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan on April 5. It was discovered during the investigation that he had crossed the legal border into Kyrgyzstan through a secret tunnel that connects the two countries.
Authorities have opened a criminal case against the suspect under Article 168 of the Kyrgyz Criminal Code, which pertains to the organization of illegal migration and the illegal importation of migrants.
In a separate incident on April 12, another individual from the Nooken district was arrested on suspicion of organizing the illegal crossing of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border for financial gain. The suspect was found in possession of specially marked currency, night vision binoculars, and 87 boxes of narcotics with an estimated value of around $30,000.
The discovery of these underground routes highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in tackling illegal activities along the borders between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Efforts to curb these illegal practices are ongoing, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to prevent further incidents of illegal border crossings and smuggling.
