Discussion of UN General Assembly Resolution on Environmental Challenges in Central Asia
Representatives from Uzbekistan organized a round table at the UN General Assembly to discuss the resolution “Central Asia in the face of environmental challenges: strengthening regional solidarity for sustainable development and prosperity”. The event, held in Geneva, was attended by diplomatic missions from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as UN and international organization units.
The resolution outlined specific tasks to address climate and environmental threats in Central Asia, including sustainable agriculture, rational use of water resources, and energy efficiency. It also emphasized the importance of addressing the problems of the Aral Sea and highlighted the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region.
Participants also welcomed Uzbekistan’s initiative to hold the International Climate Forum in Samarkand in 2024, which aims to find solutions to global environmental threats. UN diplomats and experts highlighted the need for innovative methods and new technologies to combat desertification and land degradation, as well as the creation of a Platform for Water Saving Technologies in Central Asia.
The discussion emphasized the urgent need to address environmental challenges in the region and the importance of regional cooperation in promoting sustainable development. The event ended with a call for the adoption of innovative approaches to combat environmental threats and promote sustainable development in Central Asia.
