CHP District Chairman Released After Detention Scandal in Mersin
A recent incident at the 1st Mut Olive and Olive Oil Festival in Mersin has caused a stir, leading to the detention of CHP District Chairman Abdurrahman Günay and two others. The festival, organized by Mut Municipality on September 27, took a dramatic turn during a speech by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, when AK Party District Chairman Adem Çopur reacted, sparking a brawl.
Çopur filed a complaint against Günay and two others, alleging that he was beaten during the altercation. Following the complaint, Günay and his companions were taken into custody and later sent to the courthouse after police procedures. In a show of support, CHP Deputy Gülcan Kış, CHP Mersin Provincial Chair Koral Ömür, Bar Association President Gazi Özdemir, and other party members rallied behind Günay at the courthouse.
Günay denied the allegations, stating that he did not leave his designated area during the incident. He went on to file a counter-complaint against Çopur, accusing him of making false statements. After giving statements to the prosecutor’s office, Günay and his associates were released.
