District’s Daily 107-Step Exam Challenge
The 107-step staircase built on the edge of a cliff in Belen many years ago continues to be used by citizens, despite its gradual deterioration. Originally constructed with 121 steps, the staircase has now diminished to 107 steps over time. However, the residents of Belen still rely on this staircase to access their homes and enjoy the breathtaking views of the district.
Kemal Guler, a 35-year-old resident who frequently uses the staircase, acknowledged the challenges of navigating the 107 steps daily. He mentioned, “This 107-step staircase can be a bit challenging to climb and descend every day, but the beautiful view at the top makes it worth the effort.”
Another resident, Mithat Güllü, shared his experience of using the staircase over the years. He expressed surprise at the decrease in the number of steps, saying, “I remember counting 121 steps before, but now it seems there are fewer steps due to some being broken.”
Despite its deteriorating condition, the staircase remains an essential feature for the residents of Belen, offering both a means of access and a unique perspective of the district. As locals continue to navigate this historical landmark, they appreciate the value it adds to their daily lives.
