Exciting Lyrid Meteor Shower to Light Up the Sky in April

Get ready to witness a spectacular celestial event as a strong Lyrid meteor shower will dazzle the night sky from mid-to-late April. The Department of Astrophysics at Baku State University has confirmed the anticipated meteor shower to Report.

The peak of the Lyrid meteor shower is expected to occur on April 22 at 10:04 pm Baku time (GMT+4). During this time, sky gazers can look forward to observing 18-20 meteors per hour streaking across the sky.

Known for their fast and bright meteors, the Lyrids may not be as abundant as the famous Perseids, but they have been known to surprise watchers with as many as 100 meteors per hour. Although the Lyrids do not typically leave long glowing trails behind them, they can produce occasional bright flashes known as fireballs.

In Baku, the meteor shower can be observed every evening after 08:18 pm on the mentioned days. The radiant, or the source of the meteor shower, will be at its highest point after dawn at around 05:00 am. This makes the hours before dawn the best time for observation, as Baku will be in the direction of the meteor movement, allowing for the maximum number of meteors to be seen. The radiant point in Baku will reach a maximum altitude of 83°, with around 17 meteors visible per hour.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to witness the Lyrid meteor shower lighting up the night sky in a dazzling display of celestial beauty. Grab your binoculars, find a comfortable spot, and prepare to be amazed by nature’s light show.
