Driver responsible for deaths of two children in Yangiyul accident released after serving correctional labor sentence

Judge Ulugbek Ibragimov handed down different verdicts in two similar traffic accident cases at the Yangiyul District Court. The driver responsible for the death of two children received a sentence of correctional labor, while the driver responsible for one death was sentenced to imprisonment.
In the first case, Rustamjon Mirzakhatamov, a university graduate and employed dispatcher, caused the deaths of two children in a traffic accident on June 21, 2024. Despite violating five traffic regulations, he was sentenced to three years of disqualification from driving and three years of correctional labor. The judge cited his admission of guilt, compensation to the victims, remorse, clean record, and family situation as mitigating factors.
In the second case, Islomjon Aliboev, who was temporarily unemployed, caused the death of one person in a traffic accident on June 23, 2024. Despite violating two traffic rules, he was sentenced to two years of imprisonment. The judge considered his admission of guilt, remorse, clean record, and family situation but imposed a harsher penalty due to the circumstances of the crime and partial claim from the victim’s family.
The differing outcomes in these cases have raised concerns about the perception of leniency in the legal system regarding fatal accidents. If the Prosecutor’s Office chooses to review the verdict, the case documents are available for access on the open court portal.
