Driver Sentenced to Jail for Death of 14-Year-Old Following Kun.uz Investigation

The driver responsible for the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy in Namangan has been detained following a decision by the Chartak District Court. The incident occurred on June 16, 2024, when the young boy, Ibrohimjon, was struck by a car while riding his bicycle home. Despite the severity of the accident, the driver was initially left at large during the investigation.

However, after a report by Kun.uz shed light on the case, a subsequent court session was scheduled on July 29. During this session, the defendant’s bail measure was changed, leading to his detention in the courtroom as a precautionary measure.

Additionally, the Malibu car involved in the accident had been returned to its owner before the court’s conclusion. Following an investigation by Kun.uz, the vehicle was ordered to be returned to the impound lot. The case is currently being reviewed in the Chartak District Court for Criminal Cases.

Under Article 266, Part 2 of the Criminal Code, those found guilty of violating traffic safety rules or causing death with a vehicle can face up to 7 years of imprisonment and deprivation of certain rights. The court will now determine the appropriate course of action in light of this tragic incident.
